That's because last night was anything but a party. It was a BMC Friday night. More than that, it's was Comedy Night. Every semester the college hires two comedians to come and attempt to make us laugh. The problem is, A) They're usually not funny and B) We have no sense of humor. Zero. My friends and I love Comedy Night. We're usually reduced to hysterics due to the long awkward silences and the points when the comedians actually have to tell the crowd when a joke as supposed to be funny. It's amazing. Let's just say a little game is played throughout the night and a certain activity is done whenever the comedians use one of the horrible cliches of Comedy Night. Those are.
1) Asks if they somehow ended up at Hogwarts
2) Makes fun of the scary portrait of one of our presidents hanging in the hall (I forget who..)
3) Asks about "the flags" (Which I finally learned the meaning of last night, when the comedian asked about the flags and someone provided an answer)
4) Refers to it BMC as a "girls school"
5) Finds the one guy in the audience and only talks to him
6) When someone walks out because they're offended
Oh yes. It all happened. As usual. And it will happen again next semester. And the 7 of us will be front and center.
But unfortunately Comedy Night cannot last all night. We left there at around 9:30, still feeling like we needed to do something. I voted for Wawa. I was told we couldn't go there until after midnight. So it was decided that we would head over to the 'Ford and hit up the Lunt basement concert. After I finished stabbing myself in the eye with a rusty knife, something I much would have preferred, I hopped on the bus. Why didn't I just stay behind? I was terrified they'd go to Wawa without me. And I figured I would get my point across better if I just stood completely emotionless and occasionally asked if it was time to go to Wawa. I would be the wet blanket friend, and I would enjoy it.
Upon arrival to Lunt Basement (a converted basement in a dorm that they have hipster concerts in. To quote my sister "I hate hipsters") I realized in horror that I had forgotten my flannel and black glasses. I look to my friend and realized in horror that she had not. I'm not joking when I say everyone had on flannel. Here's the problem, it was 200 degrees in that room and yet, everyone's wearing flannel. I hate people who make bad decisions. So we stand around in the basement for awhile. I notice that there are two fire exits, both fairly blocked by sound equipment. That's a great start. The band is still setting up. They were described to me as "Emo Bob Dylan with a little pop punk garage thing". That is an exact quote. I would describe them as "Bad". The drummer basically stood behind two drums and banged the crap out of them. The guitarist wouldn't face the crowd, I think he was allergic to flannel and the singer whispered into the mike, so that we couldn't hear him of the constant banging on the drum. Then the dancing started. Anyone ever see the South Park episode where they have the dance off and there's the emo dancing kid? Yea, imagine a bunch of real life emo dancing kids. Sorry, I just spent 10 minutes trying to find a clip of emo dancing South Park kid. Those who were not emo dancing (and I must say, I found the emo dance to be an enjoyable dance) were full on flailing. I was appalled. What happened to the days of classy dancing, or even the effing macarena. Remember when I said it was 200 degrees in there? The dancing brought it up to 300. Sweat was flying, everyone smells. I have seen hell, and it is indeed at Haverford. When the time finally came to leave, I raced up the stairs and gasped in the rainy night for fresh air. Oh sweet fresh air. I should mention, even though the 'Ford is a smoke free campus, that doesn't seem to apply to Lunt. There is smoke everywhere. The only place I'm pro-smoking is bowling alleys. If Lunt basement were a bowling alley, this would have been a much better night. As we walk back to the blue bus we look at the time....and realize it's only 11:30. Another Bi-Co night, ending just in time for us to get a good nights rest.
I should also say that a coup was staged on the bus and it was decided that Campus Corner delivery would be a better idea than Wawa. While I did enjoy my Campus Corner roast beef sandwich...it just wasn't the same.
